Kurai (APPROVED)

When Kurai was born she was placed straight on the waiting list for the academy. Her parents wanted what was best for her so they vouched for her to be on the list, even though they had very little money. She was teased for the ring on her forehead, which was always slightly visible when she was young, but didnt let it get her down. She concentrated hard on her studies and soon found herself on a genin squad with her only three friends from the Academy: Suzu and Hayato.

Kurai was an obedient but bright ninja. Her sensei would frown upon her when she was late, but that was only because of the multiple part time jobs she already had by the age of 12/13. Hard working was a good way to describe her. Hayato, who was known for his reckless streak, took a liking to her and would often spar with her. Suzu became one of her best friends also, but was more interested in genjutsu than taijutsu. Hayato and Kurai soon became very close but, before anything could really happen between the young shinobi, the order for the Chuunin Exams was called, and thats when a rift began to grow between the squad.

The Chuunin Exams were harsh. It caused Suzu to be withdrawn in the preliminaries with a broken arm and fractured rib which devastated Kurai. Herself and Suzu made a pact that they would both do their best to make it to the finals, but her best apparently wasnt enough. Kurai and Hayato both went onto the finals and ended up going against each other. It turned out to be a tie, which they were both happy about. They both went on to be Chuunin while Suzu was still only Genin. Hayato and Kurai were put on a lot of solo missions, but they preferred to work together since they knew each others strengths and weaknesses. Now Kurai had a strong sense of purpose so she couldnt see Hayatos rising affection for her. She continued to work hard and push herself to her limits every spare day she had. Training relentlessly, she finally achieved her goal: to be able to control she spirit she had aquired. She could now cast so many Light justu that even her family were suprised. However, she didnt know that they wouldnt be around for long.

Kurai was sent by herself, to the land of wind, for an escort mission. She didnt think it would be too difficult but it was a trap. The person she was told to escort had been killed and someone else had taken their place. She led them to the leaf and was then heavily drugged. When she came around, her family was slaughtered and her friends had been butchered. Whoever it was had been looking for the spirit inside her but her friends and family were too stubborn, and loyal, to tell them. She dropped her last name after that, so she was just known as "Kurai". She didnt want people to find out about who she was now. She mourned for months, years even, and still is. She carved an "X" into the back of her hand that day to show that she was a marked shinobi, and that it was only a matter of time before they got her too. Ever since, she dedicated herself to finding that person and killing them but never showing anyone how much she was hurting on the inside. She seemed the same on the outside to hide her pain. After many solo missions she was awarded the rank of Jonin, and was soon accepted as part of the leaf ANBU. She strives to work her hardest, and never backs down from her goal. Her dreams are plagued by two particular people. Hayato and her mother. Who reach out to her with an outstretched hand. However, when she tries to grab it they disappear. These nightmares only drive her to work harder.
